AFCON CAMERRON 2021
The decision has been announced in a Press Conference in Yaounde today, Wednesday, January 15, 2020 after an Extra-ordinary Competitions Committee meeting chaired by the President of the Confederation for African Football, CAF, Ahmad Ahmad on the sidelines of his visit to Cameroon since Monday. The main reason for the visit has been to assess preparations for both the 2020 African Nations Championships holding 4-25 April, and the Total AFCON Cameroon 2021.
The 2021 Finals were initially scheduled for June-July 2021, but two things came up to effect a change of the dates announced today. In any order, the overhauled calendar of the FIFA Club World Cup which will now hold from June 17-July 4, and then the adverse meteorological conditions in Cameroon, mid year. However, in announcing the new dates for the Total AFCON Cameroon 2021 ( January 9 – February 6), the CAF boss equally announced the creation of a follow-up committee to assist the Local Organizing Committee to effectively meet the deadline.
Later this evening, Ahmad Ahmad and his accompanying delegation were treated to a cultural show in the Yaounde Hilton Hotel during which videos of the mascot, TARA, and theme song, WE ARE ALL CHAMPIONS retained for the 2020 African Championships were presented. It would be recalled that the final choice for both was made after CAF received propositions from Cameroon close to a month ago. The ceremony which also featured the signing of the framework agreement between CAF through its President, Ahmad Ahmad on one hand, and Cameroon, through the President of the Football Federation, FECAFOOT, Seydou Mbombo Njoya, and the President of the Local Organizing Committee, Sports Minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, on the other closed on a note of satisfaction. As the event carried live on radio and tv by the State-owned Cameroon Radio Television, CRTV wrapped up, the packed-full audience of football legends, officials, media dispersed with appointment taken for the final draw for the 16-team CHAN 2020 scheduled for Yaounde on February 17, 2020.
