FLAMENGO ON THE TOP !
One day after winning the Libertadores Cup, Rio de Janeiro’s most popular soccer club, Flamengo, won the Brazilian National Championship four rounds in advance, after the only team which could outnumber them in the tournament, Palmeiras, lost its match against Grêmio.
On Saturday, Flamengo played a thrilling match against Argentina’s River Plate in Lima. Striker Gabigol managed to strike two goals during the frantic last ten minutes of the game. Huge crowds took to the streets of Rio de Janeiro to welcome the team on Sunday (picture).
What a great achievement for Flamengo, winner of the Copa Libertadores (for the second time after 1981) and of the Brazil’s National Championship (for the sixth time after 1980, 1982, 1983, 1992, 2009) in less than 24 hours !

CAMEROON SPORTS MINISTER DISMISSES CHAN 2020 TOURNAMENT MANAGER.
The Cameroon Minister for Sports and Physical Education has abruptly dismissed the Tournament Organizing manager of the 2020 Africa Football championships slated to run from April 5-25 next year. Professor Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, who is also the President of the Local Organizing Committee of the competition did not give any explanations why Michel Dissake Mbarga is substituting David N’hanack Tonye appointed to that position of responsibility just three weeks ago.
Speculations on the reasons for the move by the Minister are beginning to run riot in football circles in the country just days after the Confederation for African Football, CAF, confirmed the dates of the holding of the tournament earlier announced by Professor Kombi when he installed members of the Local Organizing Committee of the Total CHAN Cameroon 2020. On that occasion, members of the Organizing Committee of the tournament had been urged to demonstrate loyalty, devotedness, patriotism, and probity in the execution of assigned tasks ahead of the hosting of the event. Would it therefore mean David N’hanack Tonye, one-time president of the Cameroon Nanbudo federation, has been found gravely wanting somewhere ?

FORMER NATIONAL TEAM PLAYER SHUNS CAMEROON MEDIA JOB
Former Cameroon National Team player, and Sydney 2000 Olympics golden goal scorer, Modeste Mbami has politely turned down his appointment as media officer for the Cameroon Intermediate National Team.
In a letter, addressed to the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT, Mr. Mbami primarily regrets the choice of social media channel through which the federation made known the appointment to him, without even as much as seeking his consent, let alone negotiate the terms of the now abortive contract, describing the move as a classical example of the low-handedness with which otherwise, important matters are treated by the football institution. He noted with dismay that many others before him had been appointed to coach other levels of the national teams, only to be disgraced during their exercise of such functions and ultimately sacked. Therefore, he refused to condone what he described as unethical approach to things, and hopes FECAFOOT would reconsider her modus operandi for the betterment of Cameroon football which, he says, needs a thorough overhaul and not just intemperate appointments to positions of responsibility in the various levels of the national teams.
