IFFHS EURO STATISTICS 36 - MOST EDITIONS GOAL SCORER
Posted on Jun 21, 2021 | History Statistics Category
Picture : Jari Litmanen was the first footballer to score in 5 editions of EURO Championships. But only in qualifying matches.
Goal-scorers in most editions (including qualification): Litmanen, Keane and Cristiano Ronaldo
Jari Litmanen was the first footballer in history to score goals in 5 editions of the European Championships, including qualifying matches. He scored in campaigns for Euro 1992, 1996, 2000, 2008 and 2012. His record would be even more impressive if he could score at least once in the Euro 2004 edition.
But 2004 remained a missing in Litmanen's goal-scoring career, due to which in the next campaigns, Robbie Keane (2016) managed to match his record first, and then also Cristiano Ronaldo (2020) did the same.
Now they three hold the record together, and the Portuguese, unlike his colleagues, has scored not only in the qualifying part of Euros, but also in the final one.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored in 5 editions not only in the qualifying matches but also in all final tournaments ! A new Record !
