IFFHS - 13/06 - EURO 2020 STATISTICS
*Jude Bellingham (England) coming on as a substitute in the game vs Croatia (1-0) became the youngest ever player to appear in the European Championship finals. He is also the first ever to appear in Euros being younger than 18 years. His exact age was 17 years 349 days. He broke the previous record of Jetro Willems (Netherlands, 18 years 71days, at Euro 2012).
*Apart from this, Bellingham is now the youngest English player to play for his country in any major tournament (World Cup and Euro).
*Harry Kane (England) came to this tournament as the record holder of European Championships for the longest streak with goal-scoring taking into account both qualifying and final stages. He has scored in 8 games in a row during the Euro 2020 qualifying stage. His streak could be increased in the finals – but Kane failed to score vs Croatia, so his record series has finished on those 8 games. Yesterday, Sterling (picture) scored the Golden goal !
*Luka Modric (Croatia), having played in the match with England, joined the list of players who took part in the 4 Euro final tournaments. He became the second Croatian on this list after Darijo Srna, who played in all Euros from 2004 to 2016.
*North Macedonia became the 35th country to take part in the Euro final tournament.
*Goran Pandev, North Macedonia goal-scorer in the game vs Austria (1-3), became the second-oldest player ever to score at the Euro finals (age: 37 years 321 days). The record holder in this category is still Ivica Vastic (Austria) who scored being 38 years 257 days old vs Poland in 2008.
*Also Goran Pandev is now inscribed in the history as the oldest ever player at Euro to score from open game (since Vastic scored his oldest goal from penalty shot).
*Austrian midfielder Michael Gregoric's goal against North Macedonia became the 700th goal in Euro finals history.
*Maarten Stekelenburg became the oldest ever player to play for Netherlands in a major tournament (World Cup and Euro). His age in the game vs Ukraine (3-2) was 38 years 264 days. He took over the national record from Edwin van der Sar who has played in Euro 2008 at 37 years 236 days.
*In the general list of oldest players in the Euro finals history, Stekelenburg takes now 5th place, with a good chance to surpass the current 4th Peter Shilton (38 years 271 days).
*Ukraine equalled the negative record of Yugoslavia who suffered 6 consecutive defeats at the European Championships between 1968 and 1984. The defeat from the Netherlands (2-3) was the sixth in a row for Ukrainians in the final stages of Euro. This series also included defeats at Euro 2012 against France (0-2) and England (0-1), at Euro 2016 against Germany (0-2), Northern Ireland (0-2) and Poland (0-1).
